Immigration Deal Scorecard

Personally, this new deal looks like a terrible idea. What I’ve found particularly interesting is the interesting mix of people from both parties that also don’t like it. As you would expect, most Republican presidential candidates are against the deal, even though President Bush is ostensibly for it. It shocks me a little that many Democrats are coming out against it, although most are not using very strong language.

Here’s a rundown.  You can click the position of each person for the supporting press release or article that I drew the conclusion from.

Republicans Candidate/Person Position
John McCain For
Rudy Giuliani Unknown
Mitt Romney Strongly Against
Newt Gingrich Strongly Against
Tom Tancredo Strongly Against
Democrats Nancy Pelosi Reservations
Harry Reid Reservations
Barack Obama Against in current form
Hillary Clinton Hedging

The folks over at betterimmigration.com have a lot of information on where the candidates stand, as well.

The face(s) of the enemy

All you have to ask yourself on election day is, do you want John Kerry and people like him running the country?

John F-ing Kerry

Think carefully. Kerry has once again proven that he is unfit to be anything other than a gaseous wind-bag senator.  I bet Democrats just love him out there flapping his gums like this…

Kudlow’s brilliance strikes again

Larry Kudlow wrote a great piece on National Review Online, and is right on the money, as usual. Unfortunately, it looks like those who engage in class warfare were successful this time around. What were lawmakers thinking when they set up the death tax to go away in 2010, and then come back with a vengeance (i.e. return to original levels) in 2011? As some other commentators have noted, this absurdly means that the optimal year of death is 2010, from a tax perspective.

What a surprise that Republican Senators Linc Chafee and George Voinovich sided with the Democrats in defeating the total repeal (for now).
